CONTINUED IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROJECTS DESIGNED TO CONTRIBUTE TO ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN: TRAINING IN CATERING AND CORPORATE SECRETARIES TRAINING (2016/2017)

Bosnia and Herzegovina suffered enormous demographic changes over the past two decades, which adversely affected the entire socioeconomic situation in the country. According to information of the Sarajevo Canton Employment Service from February 2015, the majority of unemployed persons are women, with the unemployment rate at 60%.

The high unemployment rate, which implies a greater labour supply, increases the need for further specialisation and training so that their qualities win recognition in the labour market. Unfortunately, a significant number of unemployed women have no relevant qualifications or sufficient funds to support further education to improve their knowledge and skills. In the labour market, women also face multiple discrimination, lack of social and institutional support in employment, and they are more at risk of social exclusion as a result of long-term unemployment, which on the long run, makes them more vulnerable to violence and generally reduced quality of life. The projects “TRAINING IN CATERING AND CORPORATE SECRETARIES TRAINING“ were designed to offer to unemployed women an opportunity to improve their labour market competencies, to inform them of various options of self-employment, but also for them to regain the trust in the society where they live.

These projects seek to contribute to promotion of the female entrepreneurship and self-employment through an increased number and better quality of small catering companies. The project provided a training opportunity for about 30 unemployed women, 15 from the Sarajevo Canton and 15 from Bihać. Women from marginalized groups were given priority in enrolment to courses, including: long-term jobseekers, women in adverse financial circumstances, single mothers, unemployed widows of disabled veterans and demobilized soldiers, unemployed women with several children, victims of domestic violence.

In addition, we will continue assisting the trainees after they complete the training through support programmes for female entrepreneurs (Fond for Business Support, Mentoring, Business Counselling, Networking, Marketing, Business Club), and together with an extended group of partners, we will seek to create a supportive environment for development of small catering businesses.
